A devastating attack in Jerusalem led to the deaths of at least five people and injuries to twelve others after gunmen opened fire on a bus. The incident happened on Monday at a busy intersection in northern Jerusalem. The location of the attack is on a road that leads to Jewish settlements in East Jerusalem. Police confirmed that the attackers shot at people at a bus stop. Some accounts indicate that the attackers also entered a crowded bus and fired shots inside. Video footage showed commuters fleeing the scene as gunfire erupted near a bus stop. Paramedics described a chaotic situation, with broken glass and many victims lying unconscious on the road and sidewalk. The dead included one woman and four men. Initial reports suggested that at least two gunmen were involved. Magen David Adom stated that they received reports of about fifteen injuries from gunfire at the Ramot Junction on Yigal Yadin Street in Jerusalem. The shooting took place a few hours after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz demanded that Hamas surrender their weapons or face “annihilation.” Videos showed people running from a bus stop during the morning rush hour. The scene was filled with panic and disorder. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir arrived at the scene. Hamas praised the attack as “heroic” but did not claim responsibility. This incident occurred amid an increase in violence in Israel and the occupied West Bank since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, and the ongoing war in Gaza. In Gaza, six people died from famine and malnutrition in the last 24 hours, bringing the total deaths to 393, including 140 children. A famine was declared in Gaza last month.
