A Pittsburgh motel owner of Indian descent was murdered on Friday afternoon. The victim, Rakesh Ehagaban, was shot in the head in the motel’s parking lot. The altercation began when Ehagaban, 51, attempted to intervene in a dispute between two individuals. The shooter, Stanley Eugene West, 37, then turned and shot Ehagaban after he asked, ‘Are you okay, friend?’ The shooting was captured on the motel’s surveillance system. Before the murder of Ehagaban, West allegedly shot a woman in the neck who was in a car with a child. The woman was able to drive to a nearby auto repair shop. After the shooting, West fled the scene but was later apprehended in the East Hills area following a shootout with police. A police detective was also injured in the gunfire. West now faces charges of criminal homicide and attempted homicide.
