The escalating demands from Israel and the United States, urging the Lebanese government to disarm Hezbollah, have created a tense situation, and the country appears to be teetering on the brink of another civil war. The Lebanese government, facing this pressure, has passed a law in parliament concerning Hezbollah’s disarmament. This has sparked outrage from Hezbollah.
Mohammad Raad, the head of Hezbollah’s parliamentary group, explained that the US and Israel are applying pressure on the Lebanese government to take action, viewing time as a critical factor. He stated that the existence of Hezbollah is a source of conflict for the opposition.
Raad warned that the disarmament of the resistance would allow the enemy to interfere with Lebanon’s internal stability and possibly transform the issue from a Lebanon-Israel matter to an internal conflict. Public demonstrations supporting Hezbollah have erupted across Lebanon, leading to concerns about the deterioration of peace. If the decision is not reversed, a civil war is possible.
Raad stated the Lebanese government is capable of governing the country, but not equipped to confront its enemies. He emphasized that the resistance’s weapons have been essential in defending Lebanon from 1982 to 2025, securing its liberation and establishing a defense system that has thwarted the enemy’s expansionist plans.
Hezbollah officials view the relinquishing of weapons as a suicidal act. They consider the Lebanese government’s decision to be hasty and dangerous, believing it could jeopardize domestic stability. Raad added that they would not give up their weapons.
He asserted, “To surrender our weapons is like saying, ‘surrender your honor.’ Surrendering weapons is suicide, and we have no intention of committing suicide. Ask the army if they will surrender their weapons, which is their honor. Would they invite the world to betray us by handing over their weapons? If we hand over our weapons, who will protect our sovereignty and our country?”
