Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh National Party (BNP) is working hard to regain control of the country’s government, preparing with full force for the upcoming elections. As part of its strategy, the BNP is open to forming alliances with other political parties. However, Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP’s standing committee, has rejected any prospect of an alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami before the next national elections. This signals that the BNP will not contest the elections with a fundamentalist ideology.
Jamaat-e-Islami is considered a fundamentalist party in Bangladesh. Several leaders of this party were imprisoned during Sheikh Hasina’s time in power. Now, with the political landscape shifting, Jamaat-e-Islami also has its eyes set on gaining power in the country.
On Saturday, speaking to reporters at his Gulshan residence, Salahuddin mentioned that the BNP desires a fair election under the banner of anti-fascist national unity, which will be a historic event in the nation’s political history.
