The family of Talal Abdo Mahdi, who was allegedly murdered by Nimisha Priya, has firmly rejected the offer of blood money. They insist on ‘God’s law’ being applied, which calls for ‘retaliation in kind’. Talal’s brother, Abdel Fateh Mahdi, clarified that the claims made by Nimisha Priya regarding abuse and other issues were never presented in the Yemeni court. He emphasized the severity of the crime, stating that the murder, dismemberment, and concealment of Talal’s body are unforgivable. The family’s position remains unwavering. Yemeni law allows for blood money in exchange for a pardon, but the family has chosen to decline this option. Nimisha Priya was sentenced to death, and her execution, previously scheduled, has been postponed. The case has involved negotiations with the Yemeni authorities by both the Indian government and religious leaders. The case originated from a business and marital relationship that Nimisha shared with Talal.
