Japan's Defense Budget Soars: Focus on Drones and Missiles Amidst Regional Tensions

Japan is preparing to allocate its largest defense budget to date, with the defense ministry seeking 8.8 trillion yen for the next fiscal year. This substantial budget will fund advanced technologies, notably drones and long-range missiles. The decision aligns with Japan's plan to boost defense spending to about 2% of its GDP by 2027. The move also responds to the United States' expectations for its allies to bolster defense spending to reduce the strain on the U.S. military.
