Reports from Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency indicate that Israeli attacks on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis resulted in the deaths of at least 20 people, including five journalists, on Monday. The hospital, one of the few remaining operational medical facilities in the area, was struck by an Israeli drone, followed by an airstrike during an evacuation, resulting in the casualties. International media outlets, including Al Jazeera, The Associated Press, and Reuters, have confirmed the deaths of their staff members, expressing grief and condemnation. The Palestinian Journalists Union also identified other journalists killed in the attack. The Israeli army acknowledged it had carried out an attack near the hospital and launched a preliminary investigation, while maintaining that it did not intend to harm civilians or journalists. Post-attack footage revealed scenes of destruction and injury. The ongoing conflict has resulted in the deaths of nearly 200 journalists since October 2023. The conflict began when Hamas attacked Israel, resulting in 1,219 deaths, and the subsequent Israeli response has led to over 62,700 Palestinian fatalities.
