Thousands of Israelis are taking to the streets, protesting for the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza. The protestors are highlighting that the ongoing Israeli actions in Gaza are putting the hostages’ lives in danger. The demonstrators are urging the Netanyahu government to agree to a ceasefire to ensure the hostages are released. In response, police have arrested 25 protestors in various cities throughout Israel, including Jerusalem.
Police confronted protestors with water cannons and physical force near a major tunnel leading into the capital city, preventing them from entering. The protests are now moving towards Aza Street, where the Prime Minister’s residence is located. Despite the police action, the demonstrators are maintaining their presence. One protestor, who was arrested near the tunnel, stated, “Arrest me, but the protest movement will continue.”
Former hostages are speaking out against the use of military force.
At a demonstration in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square, Arbel Yehud, a released hostage, stated, “I understand what it means to be held captive. Military force will not bring the hostages home; it can lead to their deaths. The only way to secure their release is through a negotiated agreement, done without delay.”
Authorities have reported that 25 protestors were arrested this morning across the country. These arrests occurred amid widespread protests, road blockages, and demands for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and an end to the war. The protests were triggered by the Israeli cabinet’s decision to completely occupy Gaza and are centered around the urgent need for a deal to release the hostages.
