Iran has stated that it will only engage in dialogue with the United States if Washington provides a ‘credible guarantee’ that prevents future attacks by the US and Israel. In an interview, Iranian Ambassador to India Dr. Iraj Elahi outlined Tehran’s conditions for resuming discussions with the US, stressing that meaningful talks are impossible without such assurances. The envoy highlighted actions carried out last month as the reason for this demand.
Elahi referenced the attacks, including an Israeli operation targeting nuclear sites and military infrastructure, followed by US strikes. Iran condemned these actions as violations of international law. He stated that the attacks involved cyber and terrorist elements and led to the deaths of many. Elahi accused the US and Israel of undermining diplomacy. He emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful, is under IAEA supervision and that the attacks were unjustified.
He also stated that Iran remains committed to the NPT, but also criticized the IAEA’s handling of the situation. The ambassador reiterated that Iran is open to diplomacy, but only if the US prevents future attacks.
