US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has stated his expectation that India will offer an apology and seek a trade agreement with the United States. Lutnick anticipates India will recognize its reliance on the US market. In a television interview, Lutnick likened India’s situation to Canada’s approach, highlighting that Canada adjusted its stance to secure a deal with the United States based on its economic needs. Lutnick projected that India would be at the negotiating table within a short period, expressing regret and seeking a deal with Donald Trump, with the terms of the deal subject to Trump’s discretion and Modi’s role. The predictions follow former US President Donald Trump’s remarks on Truth Social, where he suggested the US had ‘lost’ India and Russia to China. These remarks were made after the gathering of India, Russia, and China at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meet in Tianjin. Trump’s post included an older photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Previously, Trump accused Chinese President Xi Jinping of allegedly conspiring against the US after the attendance of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin at China’s largest military parade.
