Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on August 31 during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, representing his first visit to China in more than seven years. He will also meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 1 in Tianjin. These meetings come at a time of global attention, particularly due to existing India-US trade tensions, including those stemming from U.S. actions linked to India’s ongoing purchase of Russian oil amidst the war in Ukraine. Prior to the summit, New Delhi stated its expectation that the SCO summit will include a strong condemnation of cross-border terrorism.
