The auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Parv has been overshadowed by the mysterious disappearance of an Indian Sikh pilgrim, Sarabjit Kaur, in Pakistan. Her vanishing act has escalated into a significant cross-border security concern, engaging both Indian and Pakistani intelligence agencies.
Kaur was among the 1,932 Indian nationals who crossed into Pakistan for the religious event. She was last seen on November 4, but when the pilgrims prepared for their return on November 13, Sarabjit Kaur was nowhere to be found. A crucial detail that has surfaced is that her immigration form was not fully completed, notably lacking nationality and passport number details.
Adding a sensational twist, a letter circulating widely from Pakistan claims that Sarabjit Kaur has converted to Islam and married a Pakistani national named Nasir Hussain, adopting the new name Noor Hussain. Reports mention a marriage certificate allegedly issued by a mosque in Sheikhupura, stating the nikah was performed with her agreement. However, Indian authorities are treating these assertions with skepticism, investigating various potential scenarios, including deliberate misinformation.
Another line of inquiry focuses on a possible illegal immigration plot. There are indications that Sarabjit Kaur’s husband has been living in the United Kingdom for the past two decades. Investigators are exploring whether her disappearance was a calculated move to use informal and illegal border-crossing networks, commonly known as the ‘dunkey route,’ to travel to the UK from Pakistan.
Further complicating the case are revelations about Sarabjit Kaur’s past. She was previously involved in three criminal cases, though she was acquitted in all of them. Her sons have also faced charges under the NDPS Act. These past legal entanglements are prompting a review of potential pre-existing networks or planned activities.
Officials have made it clear that as of now, there is no confirmed evidence to support the claims of religious conversion or marriage. The investigation is ongoing, with agencies actively working to trace Sarabjit Kaur and determine the veracity of the claims surrounding her disappearance. The true circumstances remain unclear, leaving many questions unanswered about her fate and potential motivations.
