The diplomatic relationship between India and Bangladesh has reportedly reached a precarious low, raising concerns about regional stability. Intelligence agencies have uncovered a potential plot orchestrated by Pakistan’s ISI to instigate India into launching an attack on Bangladesh. This tactic is believed to be aimed at diverting international focus and potentially garnering sympathy. ISI-backed elements are reportedly fanning anti-India sentiments and falsely portraying India as a supporter of the ousted Awami League party. A key element of this strategy involves exploiting the persecution of minority communities in Bangladesh, particularly Hindus.
Incidents like the recent lynching of a Hindu man are being amplified by ISI-linked social media channels to provoke anger and demand for military intervention from the Indian public. The intended outcome is to pressure the Indian government into aggressive action, thereby making India appear as the aggressor on the global stage.
Despite these provocations, India is reportedly aware of Pakistan’s strategic game. New Delhi’s foreign policy is centered on defending its interests and sovereignty, rather than acting as an aggressor. With the Awami League currently facing electoral restrictions, India is said to be engaging with alternative political factions, such as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), to foster a stable and friendly government in Dhaka—a development that would be unfavorable to Pakistan.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan has provided insights into India’s defense readiness. He emphasized the paramount importance of maintaining deterrence against nuclear-armed adversaries and preparing for short-duration, high-intensity conflicts. General Chauhan also acknowledged the likelihood of long-duration, land-centric conflicts due to ongoing border disputes. He stressed that India must adapt to modern warfare, which is characterized by speed, advanced technology, and rapid decision-making, citing the successful execution of ‘Operation Sindoor’ as an illustration of effective multi-domain warfare in a compressed timeframe.
