India has strongly denounced Pakistan’s alleged “grave” human rights abuses and brutal actions within the territories of Kashmir it illegally occupies, demanding an immediate cessation. During a UN General Assembly session, India’s representative detailed how Pakistani forces and their proxies have reportedly killed civilians protesting for basic freedoms.
The Indian delegate articulated that the population in these occupied areas is engaged in an “open revolt” against “Pakistan’s military occupation, repression, brutality and illegal exploitation of resources.” This forthright condemnation aimed to expose Pakistan’s alleged duplicity and its misuse of international forums to spread misinformation.
“Repetitive allegations and lies change neither reality nor the truth,” the Indian official stated, deeming Pakistan’s persistent accusations as “double speak and hypocrisy” that do not warrant the UN’s consideration. India highlighted the robust democratic participation and evident socio-economic development in Jammu and Kashmir as refutations of Pakistan’s claims. The people’s regular exercise of their democratic choices was emphasized.
India also addressed the historical context of UN Security Council Resolution 47, clarifying that it mandated Pakistan’s withdrawal from Kashmir, a directive still ignored by Islamabad’s continued illegal occupation. The representative reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are “integral and inalienable parts of India.” India’s commitment to human rights, influenced by Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, is deeply embedded in its constitutional framework and is consistently strengthened by legislative reforms and judicial oversight.
