Several Hindu organizations, including the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), demonstrated outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday, protesting the escalating violence against minority Hindus in Bangladesh. The central focus of their protest was to demand justice for Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu man who was recently killed in Mymensingh following alleged blasphemy accusations.
Gathering in the vicinity of the High Commission, the protestors expressed strong condemnation of the alleged atrocities and accused the Bangladeshi authorities of failing to uphold their responsibility to protect minority populations. Slogans demanding justice for Dipu Chandra Das and an end to religious persecution were raised.
Adding to the pressure, Inqilab Moncho, a platform linked to student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, has threatened to launch a campaign to depose the government if justice is not ensured in Dipu Chandra Das’s case. This signifies a significant internal challenge related to minority rights and law enforcement.
Bangladesh has officially reacted to the protests by summoning India’s High Commissioner, labeling the demonstrations as ‘unjustified.’ A government statement conveyed that the unauthorized protest activities near the High Commission caused panic and that no advance notice was given. Nevertheless, Bangladesh has reportedly received assurances from the Indian government regarding the safety and security of its diplomatic missions.
Beyond the capital, similar protests were organized in Hyderabad, where VHP members and others voiced their opposition to the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. The VHP has urged the Indian government to take a firm stand, demanding protection for Hindus and raising concerns about illegal immigration from the neighboring country.
