The presence of the ‘Doomsday plane’ in Washington has raised eyebrows amid the ongoing war between Israel and Iran. The E-4B Nightwatch, a critical element of US national security, landed at St Andrew’s Air Force Base. This aircraft is the National Airborne Operations Centre (NAOC), which is designed to provide a secure command post for the President, defense secretaries, and other high-ranking officials to manage critical communications during emergencies, including a nuclear conflict. The plane is built to withstand nuclear explosions, cyberattacks and missile strikes and can accommodate a crew of 112 with a range of more than 7,000 miles. Former President Trump has voiced concern about the growing tensions between Israel and Iran and declined to indicate if military action against Iran is a possibility. He also expressed his disappointment about Iran’s choice not to make a deal.
