Israeli forces launched attacks in Damascus on Wednesday, focusing on the vicinity of the Syrian Presidential Palace, military command centers, and the Defence Ministry. The IDF stated that these actions were a direct response to the Syrian regime’s treatment of Druze civilians in southern Syria after the breakdown of a local ceasefire. On X, the IDF confirmed the strike on the entrance to the Syrian regime’s military headquarters in the area of Damascus. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appealed to Israeli Druze, requesting they not cross the border into Syria, citing safety concerns. At least 248 people have died in clashes between Druze and Bedouins. Israeli Druze previously breached the border in an attempt to help those in Syria. Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, the spiritual leader of Israel’s Druze community, expressed his disappointment with the Israeli government and military for not fulfilling its duty to protect Druze civilians across the border. In response, the IDF has increased its border presence anticipating additional crossings and protests.
