China to launch ‘targeted military operations’ after Nancy Pelosi lands in Taiwan

China on Tuesday introduced that it will launch a collection of “targeted military operations” in response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s go to to Taiwan, Chinese state media reported.

The Chinese Defence ministry mentioned that they’d “resolutely defend [their] nationwide sovereignty and territorial integrity,” as tensions flared between the US and China.

CHINA TO CONDUCT MILITARY EXERCISES

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army will conduct important military exercises and training activities, including live-fire drills from August 4 till August 7, the Chinese state media reported.

China said that its Eastern Theater Command will hold joint military operations around Taiwan, with joint maritime and air drills in north, south-west and south-east of the island. China also said that it would hold long-range artillery shooting in the Taiwan Strait and conventional missile test firing in sea regions east of the island starting Tuesday night, a Chinese official said.

CHINA REACTS

China’s Foreign Affairs ministry on Tuesday in a strongly-worded statement said that Pelosi’s Taiwan visit was “a serious violation of the one-China principle” and that it would have a “severe impact on the political foundation of China-US relations”.

China also said that the visit seriously “infringed upon China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“It [the visit] gravely undermines peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and sends a seriously wrong signal to the separatist forces for “Taiwan independence”. China firmly opposes and sternly condemns this, and has made severe démarche and robust protest to the United States,” the official assertion learn.

The assertion additional said, “Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. This has been clearly recognized by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 of 1971. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, 181 countries have established diplomatic relations with China on the basis of the one-China principle.”

The statement further said that since Pelosi was the incumbent leader of the US Congress, her visit to and activities in Taiwan was “a major political provocation to upgrade US official exchanges with Taiwan.”

While condemning Pelosi’s go to to Taiwan, China additionally mentioned that each one the results arising from the go to can be borne by the US and the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces.
