China is not fighting a conventional war; its main adversary is the Taklamakan Desert. In response to this environmental challenge, China has constructed the Great Green Wall, the second-largest wall in the world. The project highlights China’s commitment to safeguarding its territory from the desert’s encroachment, primarily in the Xinjiang region.
The Great Green Wall, spanning 3,046 kilometers, serves as a crucial ‘shelter belt,’ preventing sandstorms from reaching populated areas and promoting tourism. The initiative involves connecting green belts that integrate the three desert regions of Inner Mongolia. China is rapidly intensifying its efforts to protect its northern territories, considering the desert as a severe threat that transforms land into desert.
