The interim government in Bangladesh, led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, has taken steps to restrict the broadcast of statements by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The government has warned media outlets that publishing or broadcasting any statements from Sheikh Hasina will result in legal repercussions. This decision stems from the government’s concerns regarding the content of her statements.
The government asserts that Sheikh Hasina has been found guilty by the International Crimes Tribunal. She is also accused of committing crimes against humanity. The interim government views the broadcast of her audio or statements on television or online platforms as a serious violation of the 2009 anti-terrorism law. The government has also highlighted the decision of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, which similarly blocked the broadcast of hate speech by a dictator.
