Relief Camps Reach Over 71,000 People in Flood‑Stricken Assam

Assam’s chief minister provided an update on July 28, reporting that state authorities have moved more than 71,000 flood‑affected residents into relief camps. The government has activated 1,690 distribution centers that operate around the clock, delivering food, shelter, medical aid and other essentials. Coordination among the administration, disaster‑management teams and partner agencies has accelerated, allowing faster evacuation from hard‑hit districts.

The chief minister noted a 50 % rise in camp occupancy compared with the previous day, reflecting successful rescue missions in remote locations. Additionally, the number of distribution points was increased by 14 % to improve the reach of relief materials across the affected region.
