Amid tension in relations with Canada, Indian government took a big step, decided to recall the High Commissioner and diplomats.

New Delhi. Diplomatic tension has once again increased after Canada’s latest allegations against India in the Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar murder case in Canada last year. The matter has escalated to such an extent that India has decided to recall its High Commissioner and other diplomats and officials from Canada. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said in a statement that the steps taken by the Justin Trudeau government in the environment of extremism and violence in Canada have endangered the safety of Indian diplomats and officials there. Therefore, India has decided to recall its High Commissioner and other targeted diplomats from Canada.

Let us tell you that last year in June 2023, Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, hiding in Canada, was shot dead. After returning from the G-20 conference held in India, PM Justin Trudeau alleged that India was behind this murder. He also expelled many officials of the Indian Embassy, calling them undesirable. In return, India expelled many of its diplomats. India then not only rejected Canada’s allegation as absurd but also asked for evidence to prove its involvement in the murder, but till date Canada has not been able to provide any such evidence.

Tension was also visible between the two countries in the Laos ASEAN Summit

It is noteworthy that the tense relations between the two countries were also shown in the recent ASEAN Summit held in Laos, when there was a brief meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Justin Trudeau but its coldness soon became known to the people. Sources in New Delhi described the meeting as inconsequential, while Trudeau called it a “brief exchange.” Provoking India, Trudeau said he reiterated his concerns about the safety of Canadians and maintaining the rule of law. Now, after about one and a half years, Canada has included Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma posted in Ottawa and some other diplomats as ‘persons of interest’ i.e. wanted in Nijjar’s murder. India has retaliated against this action of Canada and accused it of defaming its officials and not being able to curb Khalistani extremism on its soil.
