The relationship between Pakistan and Bangladesh is experiencing strain as Pakistan has refused to apologize for its actions during the 1971 conflict. Despite efforts to improve relations, the visit of Pakistan’s Foreign Minister has highlighted the ongoing disputes. The core of the issue is Pakistan’s unwillingness to acknowledge the atrocities against Bangladeshis. This stance has been met with a firm response from the Bangladeshi government. The Bangladeshi Foreign Minister, Md. Touhid Hossain, rejected Dar’s account of past discussions. The long-standing issues related to the 1971 war continue to impede diplomatic progress. In addition to the apology, Bangladesh is also seeking the return of its assets and to repatriate Pakistani citizens. These issues make it difficult for the two countries to normalize relations.
