Microsoft and ASUS have announced the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handheld gaming devices, powered by Windows 11. Launching during the holiday season of 2025, these devices will initially be available in countries such as the US, UK, Japan, and India, with expansion plans to follow. This signifies Xbox’s inaugural entry into the handheld gaming market, a collaboration with ASUS designed for both casual and enthusiastic gamers. Features will include native gaming, cloud streaming, and remote console play.
The standard ROG Xbox Ally will be powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD storage, designed to provide accessible Xbox gaming on the move. The ROG Xbox Ally X will feature an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, 24GB RAM, and 1TB SSD storage, geared towards gamers desiring greater performance and storage capacity. Both devices will introduce a new full-screen Xbox experience optimized for handheld gaming, complete with controller-friendly modifications. The UI features include an Xbox button, contoured grips, a Game Bar overlay, and integration with ASUS Armoury Crate. The new UI simplifies game access by aggregating titles from various platforms. Roblox will be natively supported and optimized for the Xbox Ally. Both handhelds have a 7-inch Full HD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The Xbox Ally will include a 60Wh battery, and the Ally X will offer an 80Wh battery. Pricing details and pre-order information will be released soon. The base Ally is expected to be priced between INR 60,000 and INR 65,000, with the Ally X potentially exceeding INR 85,000. Further announcements regarding Indian retail availability are expected in the next few months, injecting more competition into the handheld gaming market.
