Freddie Meyer created Quordle in 2022, inspired by Wordle and Dordle. Merriam-Webster purchased the game in January 2023.
Engineer David Mah initially developed Quordle’s prototype. Freddie Meyer later adjusted Mah’s code.
He drew inspiration from Dordle, where players solve two grids. Quordle launched in February 2022, gaining a million players within weeks.
Merriam-Webster acquired Quordle in January 2023, for an undisclosed amount. Greg Barlow, the company’s president, said the game was “a favourite” among employees and called it “a great addition” to the site’s game selection.
