The Tamil Nadu government has unveiled a new WhatsApp-based chatbot to improve accessibility to government services for its citizens. The project was formalized with a Memorandum of Understanding, with IT Minister Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan and Principal Secretary Brajendra Navnit present. The chatbot consolidates access to approximately 50 government services through a single point of contact.
The chatbot supports both Tamil and English, catering to a wide audience. Users can utilize it for a variety of functions, including filing complaints, paying electricity and water bills, settling municipal taxes, and buying metro tickets.
Officials highlighted that the objective is to reduce the need for physical visits to service centers and deliver services directly to citizens’ mobile phones. The chatbot is intended to make government services readily available, regardless of location or time constraints.
