David Mah developed the initial Quordle prototype. Meyer then adapted the code, drawing from Dordle’s concept of tackling two word puzzles concurrently. Quordle launched in February 2022 and quickly gained a large following, reaching a million players within weeks.
Merriam-Webster acquired Quordle in January 2023, with Greg Barlow, the company’s president, noting its popularity among employees.
