Google has updated its Gemini AI platform, introducing a sharing feature that allows users to share their custom “Gems,” or AI assistants, with others. This feature enhances collaboration by making it simple to share AI tools with friends, family, and colleagues. The sharing mechanism functions in a way similar to Google Drive, simplifying the process of sharing custom AI assistants. Here’s a look at the new feature and how to use it.
The update provides users the ability to share their custom “Gems.” As detailed on Google’s blog, the sharing process resembles Google Drive, allowing users to choose the “Share” option from the Gem manager.
Users are also given control over the access to their Gems, specifying who can view, use, and edit the shared assistant. This feature means that instead of multiple individuals completing similar tasks, everyone can leverage a single, shared “Gem.”
Google highlights the new feature’s ability to streamline collaboration. A team that needs to create a custom AI assistant, for instance, can work together using a shared “Gem” rather than each member developing their own. Additionally, families can plan vacations or seek writing assistance using a single source. The feature proves to be especially beneficial for repeated tasks.
Steps for creating a Gem:
Visit the Google Gemini website and log in with your Google account.
Select the “Gem manager” option, and then click “Create New Gem.”
Name your custom AI “Gem” and provide a set of instructions.
Once you’re satisfied, click “Save.”
You can then assess how your Gem reacts to your prompts.
Gemini AI launched last year as “Gemini Advanced,” which featured numerous pre-built “Gems” designed for tasks like brainstorming, career advice, editing, and coding assistance. While this was initially only for Gemini Advanced subscribers, it has now become available to all users. In March, Google opened it up to all users, providing the ability to upload files, which helps with personalization. The recent widespread interest in the banana trend is also a feature that’s part of Gemini AI.
