Sony has officially stated that the PlayStation 6 is a key priority, as the PlayStation 5 nears its fifth anniversary. This announcement signifies the company’s dedication to its gaming platform’s future. Sony is prioritizing the development of new console hardware. Despite the rise of cloud gaming, Sony believes that traditional consoles offer superior network stability and long-term cost benefits. The company’s management has asserted the importance of focusing on next-generation consoles. Hideaki Nishino, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, noted that cloud technology is improving, but it does not deliver a stable network performance. He added that the cost of streaming is also more expensive by the hour than console gaming. Sony aims to capitalize on the strong player base it has cultivated through PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles. Lynn Azar, Senior VP of Finance of SIE, noted that Sony is exploring a multi-generational ecosystem.
