Nothing, the London-based smartphone manufacturer, is gearing up to operate its budget-friendly sub-brand CMF as a separate entity in India. This strategic move highlights India’s importance as a global center for manufacturing, operations, and research. Nothing has partnered with Indian electronics firm Optiemus Infracom through a joint venture. This collaboration will center the production and export of both Nothing and CMF products in India.
Carl Pei, the CEO of Nothing, met with Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s Minister of Electronics and IT. The meeting was followed by a post on X to discuss the expansion of Nothing and CMF in India. Pei noted that India is pivotal to the future of the global smartphone market. The joint investment of $100 million (approximately 887.77 crore) is expected to create over 1800 jobs in India within three years, highlighting the positive impact of the investment on employment. Nothing’s investment in India has already exceeded $200 million (1775 crore), a clear signal of the company’s commitment to the market.
CMF, launched in 2023, has targeted the budget smartphone and wearables market. The company focuses on products priced under $200. A significant percentage of smartphones sold in India fall within this price range. The joint venture is a major step towards making CMF a global smartphone brand based out of India.
