Meta is set to introduce a new line of smart glasses in partnership with Oakley. An official Instagram account, ‘Oakley | Meta,’ confirmed a product launch on June 20th. This comes after Meta’s successful partnership with Ray-Ban in the smart glasses market.
The Oakley version is likely to cater to outdoor enthusiasts and athletes, diverging from the more casual Ray-Ban Meta Glasses. These glasses will feature a centrally-mounted, action-style camera, making them perfect for recording during sports activities. This design change signals a shift towards a more activity-focused design.
Meta’s previous smart glasses launch in collaboration with Ray-Ban has seen significant success, with over 2 million units sold. The company aims to produce 10 million units annually by the end of 2026. The rising popularity of AI wearables has spurred adoption, and Meta appears to be capitalizing on this trend with Oakley.
Google is also entering the smart glasses market with announced collaborations with fashion eyewear companies such as Warby Parker, Gentle Monster, and Kering Eyewear. These glasses will be powered by the Android XR platform, leading to increased competition. Apple is also preparing to release its own smart glasses.
Apple is reportedly planning to launch its first generation of smart glasses by late 2026. Large-scale prototype production will commence later this year, spearheaded by the Vision Products Group. Expected features include real-time translation, Siri voice control, scene recognition, and turn-by-turn navigation. They are expected to include built-in cameras, microphones, and speakers, offering a more advanced experience than existing options.
