Reliance Jio has launched JioPC, a cloud-based virtual desktop service that turns your TV into a computer. This service uses the Jio Set-Top Box, which connects to JioFiber. A separate CPU is not required, and the service can be purchased separately.
To use JioPC, you connect a keyboard and mouse to your TV, and it becomes a virtual computer. The operating system is Ubuntu (Linux), and everything runs in the cloud. You can use it for web browsing, online learning, coding, and editing documents. It currently does not support external devices such as webcams and printers.
The service uses a pay-as-you-go model. The monthly price is ₹599 + GST. A three-month plan includes one month free, costing ₹1,499. The yearly plan offers an extra three months of service, providing 15 months of use, and costs ₹4,599.
The virtual machine comes with 4 CPUs, 8GB RAM, and 100GB of cloud storage. Basic software like LibreOffice is pre-installed. You can access Microsoft Office through a browser.
You get a one-month free trial, which includes Jio Workspace and 512GB of extra cloud storage. You also get free access to Adobe Express for graphic design and content creation.
To set up the service, turn on your Jio Set-Top Box, open the JioPC app from the Apps section, and register with your mobile number. Once you log in, your cloud desktop is ready to go. A fast internet connection is necessary since all processes are handled on Jio’s cloud servers.
