Foxconn is expanding its manufacturing operations in India by setting up to produce iPhone casings. The Taiwanese electronics giant is establishing a specialized unit in the ESR industrial park in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, for the production of metal enclosures for iPhones. This represents a considerable expansion for Foxconn’s role within Apple’s Indian supply chain, extending beyond device assembly.
This decision by Foxconn aligns with its objective to strengthen domestic capabilities and decrease its reliance on China, given current global trade conditions. While the value of iPhone casings accounts for a small portion of the total production value, the inclusion of this process in India signifies Apple’s increased reliance on the nation. The new facility is currently under construction and will be located next to another Foxconn plant which assembles iPhone display modules.
