Incognito Mode is a key feature for private browsing, available on platforms like Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Despite its privacy focus, some digital footprints of your activity can remain. This guide provides steps to fully delete your Incognito Mode history.
Incognito Mode doesn’t save browsing history, cookies, or form data. However, DNS cache, downloaded files, logins, and system-level logs can be stored locally.
To clear the DNS cache on Windows, open the Command Prompt through the Start Menu by typing ‘cmd’, enter the command ‘ipconfig /flushdns’, and press Enter. You should see a success message.
Downloaded files will need to be manually deleted from your Downloads folder. Select the files and delete them, then empty the Recycle Bin.
Check and delete browser cache and cookies if you have opened a website in a normal tab while using Incognito Mode. In Chrome, go to Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Clear Browsing Data. Select ‘Cached images and files’ and ‘cookies’ and then click ‘Clear Data’.
