OpenAI has launched a major update for its ChatGPT Search, with the goal of improving the quality and depth of responses and making the service more competitive. The update, released on June 13, enhances the search experience on the web by providing more intelligent and detailed answers to various topics such as news, sports, and finance. Originally launched nearly a year ago, ChatGPT Search is designed to summarize online content and provide source links for fact-checking. The update promises to improve the understanding of queries, handle longer conversations more effectively, and make it easier to follow instructions, resulting in a more efficient and useful search experience. The new ChatGPT Search delivers smarter answers by improving query understanding and providing richer context. It handles longer conversations more efficiently, reduces the repetition of responses, and follows user commands more precisely. In addition, ChatGPT Search can now automatically conduct multi-step searches for complex questions and offers the ability for users to search the web based on images they upload. Although the improvements are positive, OpenAI advises users that ChatGPT might still occasionally produce errors. Users are encouraged to verify information using the linked sources. Some users may also encounter longer responses or unnecessary “thought process” answers to simple questions; a solution is in development.
