Meta has just unveiled its first Ray-Ban smart glasses featuring augmented reality (AR), alongside two other new AI smart glasses. The Meta Ray-Ban Display signifies the brand’s foray into smart glasses with a heads-up display, reminiscent of the Google Glass concept. Designed in the classic Wayfarer style, the glasses incorporate a camera, microphone, and speakers without compromising their traditional appearance.
The right lens houses a small, bright, and clear display that appears just below the user’s line of sight. This display is capable of showing text, images, facilitating live video calls, and other functions. The display only activates during user interaction, ensuring discretion. An LED indicator provides external notification when the camera is in use.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the glasses at the Meta Connect event on Wednesday.
At the tech giant’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, Zuckerberg highlighted the unique capabilities of glasses, as a form factor, in enabling AI to perceive what the user sees and hears, thereby facilitating the generation of desired outputs, such as images or video.
