A widespread network outage affected Bharti Airtel customers across India on Sunday, hindering the ability of thousands of users to make calls and use mobile data in major cities. Reports collected by DownDetector, a website that monitors service interruptions, showed that complaints began around 11 am and peaked shortly after midday. By 12:11 pm, over 6,800 reports had been logged, with approximately 52% of users citing “No Signal” and 31% reporting problems with mobile internet. The incident led to the hashtag “Airtel Down” trending on X (formerly Twitter), as users aired their grievances.
Airtel confirmed the disruption, describing it as a temporary connectivity issue and promised a quick resolution. The official Airtel Cares account posted a message, apologizing for the inconvenience, and stated that the issue would be resolved within an hour. Users were advised to restart their devices after the resolution to restore services.
The outage impacted cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Chennai. Users shared reports of the outage across social media, many of whom were unable to make calls. Similar issues were also reported earlier in the week.
Reports of the issue appeared on X with some users reporting issues, like being unable to book a cab for an upcoming meeting.
