BERHAMPUR: Gunupur Unnayana Samiti (GUS) together with different organisations resented delay in resumption of practice service between Naupada and Gunupur that was stopped because of the pandemic final yr.

GUS president Akshya Das stated passengers are dealing with a whole lot of difficulties because the service has not but resumed. The 40 km stretch of Paralakhemundi Light Railway between Paralakhemundi and Naupada was formally opened on April 1, 1900. The route was prolonged until Gunupur in two phases in 1929 and 1931. The rail line suffered heavy injury as a consequence of cyclone Titli in 2018. The service resumed after repairs inside 10 days. But it has been hampered as soon as once more because of the pandemic.

“Even as train services have resumed across the country, it is yet to be done on the Naupada-Gunupur route,” stated Das. Stating that the rail line is the lifeline of the area, he accused East Coast Railway (ECoR) of being apathetic in the direction of individuals’s plight. Meanwhile, a senior ECoR official stated efforts are on to revive the service.
