SC dismisses pleas looking for nod to conduct ‘rath yatra’ at locations aside from Jagannath Puri

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed pleas looking for permission to conduct ‘rath yatras’ at numerous locations aside from Jagannath Puri in Odisha.
A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana stated that it could not intrude with the instructions handed by the state authorities beneath the Disaster Management Act.
“We are sorry. We also feel bad,” the bench stated.
The Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri is an annual ritual and this time, it’s scheduled for July 12.
The state has allowed rath yatra solely at Jagannath Puri.
