Seraikela, Sachindra Kumar Dash: The tableau of the world famous Chhau dance of Seraikela-Kharsawan district will be seen in the main program to be organized on the duty path of Delhi on Republic Day (26 January). 21 artists from the district will present various aspects of Jharkhand’s lifestyle through Chhau dance in the tableau. Through the tableau, the contribution of Padma Vibhushan cum industrialist Ratan Tata to the development of the country has been shown.

Leader of Chhau dance group and former director of Government Chhau Dance Art Center and Sangeet Natak Academy Awardee Chhau Guru Tapan Patnaik said that the team will present a tableau during the parade. In the tableau, along with the excellent dance style of Seraikela-Kharsawan, information will be given about the art, culture and tradition and the natural resources of the area like water, forest and minerals. Said that the group of 21 artists had reached Delhi on January 17 itself. On Thursday, the artists rehearsed on the duty path in Delhi for the tableau.

Flashback: Chhau dance exhibition was held in Rajpath, Delhi in 1992.
It is known that before this, on the Republic Day in 1992, a tableau of Chhau was taken out in Rajpath (now Dutva Path) of Delhi. In this, the artists of Seraikela along with the tableau of Chhau dance in front of thousands of guests including the then President Dr. R. Venkat Raman, Chhau guru Sushant Mahapatra also displayed the mask used in Chhau dance of the peacock (peacock), the national bird. Then 19 Chhau masks were displayed in the tableau. From bringing soil from the river to making and wearing masks, the art of making them was displayed in the tableau. The 18 artists involved in the tableau displayed the Peacock Dance, in which the background of the Raj Palace of Seraikela was set.
