Elephant tramples 4 individuals to loss of life in Odisha’s Angul

ANGUL/BHUBANESWAR: In one more incident of human-wildlife battle, an grownup elephant that strayed near human settlements trampled 4 individuals to loss of life in Angul Forest Division early within the morning on Saturday.

The deceased are Subash Biswal from Chheliapada, Anirudhha Sahoo from Angarabandha, Ramesh Swain from Barasingha and Ajay Samal from Gada Santiri. All had been within the age group of 45 to 60 years. 

RCCF Angul M Yogajayanand stated the elephant that strayed into crop fields and gardens of close by villages in Angul vary of the division attacked the individuals early within the morning.

All deaths happened after 4.30 am, he stated.

The RCCF stated forest workers reached out to the households of the deceased individuals, whereas the Angul Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) initiated the method for the early launch of Rs 4 lakh compensation to those households after the incidents had been reported.

“Around 10 per cent of this compensation will be released immediately,” Yogajayanand stated.

He additional stated that the forest workers of Angul Division are on alert and continually monitoring the motion of the pachyderm that has now moved into the forests of Talcher vary.

Giving extra particulars, Angul DFO Vivek Kumar stated the full-grown feminine elephant was part of the 25-member herd shifting within the Mandargiri reserve forest of Angul for the previous couple of days.

“Last night the elephant got separated from the herd and moved towards fields of nearby villages where it had a direct encounter with four villagers,” he stated. 

Sources stated the elephant first attacked Subash Biswal at a crop area in Chheliapada village. It then went to Angarabandha village the place it attacked Anirudhha Sahoo who was working in his backyard. Thereafter, the jumbo moved near Barasingha and mauled Ramesh Swain who had gone to a close-by forest. It later attacked Ajay Samal in Gada Santiri.
