ED seizes Rs 7.47 crore in money and gold from three former officers at Kochi Naval Base

KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has hooked up properties together with money deposits and gold of three individuals together with the previous Chief Engineer of the Military Engineer Service (MES) who have been booked by the CBI over corruption in civil works on the Kochi Naval Base in 2018. The ED hooked up properties to the tune of Rs 7.47 crore together with money of Rs 4 crore and 6.636 kg of gold valued at Rs 3.45 crore belonging to the accused recognized as Rakesh Kumar Garg, Sanjeev Khanna and Sanjeev Kumar Aggarwal.

In 2018, the CBI had registered a case and arrested Rakesh, the then Chief Engineer (Naval Works), Military Engineer Services (MES), Kathari Bagh Naval Base, Kochi. He had allegedly indulged in corrupt practices by the use of demanding and accumulating unlawful gratification of 1 per cent of tender worth from contractors for issuing numerous civil contracts on the Naval Base, Kochi.

Other accused individuals within the case have been Pushkar Bhasin, Praful Jain, Kanav Khanna, Sanjeev Khanna, Subodh Jain, Chanchal Jain and different unknown public servants. Later, the ED registered a case below the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and began a probe in opposition to the accused individuals.

“Investigation revealed that Rakesh, Kanav, Sanjeev Khanna and Sanjeev Aggarwal had by the fee of the scheduled offence and different offences relatable to the scheduled offence derived/obtained the proceeds of crime within the type of money
totalling to Rs 4.01 crore and 6.636 kg of gold valued at Rs 3.45 crore,” an ED assertion stated.
