More than 50 families return to Silger after two decades.
Raipur, March 19, 2025 / Due to the restoration of peace in the Bastar region, deserted villages are once again becoming inhabited. After Jagargunda and Gargunda in Sukma district, Naxal-affected villages adjoining them are also being repopulated. The people living in the Jagargunda relief camp have already returned to their villages, and now villages like Silger, Timmapuram, Bedre, Borguda, Gellur, and Mandmarka, located 11 kilometers away from Jagargunda, are also being repopulated.
After two decades, these villages are regaining their vibrancy. More than 50 families from Silger and its surrounding areas, who had left their villages during the Salwa Judum movement in 2005-2006 and settled in Cherla, Bhadrani district of Andhra Pradesh, and other districts, have now returned to their village and are rebuilding their homes. The villagers said that most of them had settled in Cherla. Now, villagers are returning to settle in Silger village again. Ramdas of Silger said that more than 50 families have now returned. Ramdas said that roads have been built and other work is also being done in the village.
People who had left the village are returning because there is peace now.
Jagargunda to Basaguda-Bijapur road completed
The Jagargunda to Basaguda-Bijapur road has also been completed, and the road is no longer deserted. Schools and hospitals have started. An ashram is also being built.
Silger village was completely deserted. Only a few families were left in the village. After Jagargunda, the school has also reopened in Silger village. An ashram building is being constructed, and the hospital has started functioning.
Bus service has also started on all three sides: Bijapur, Dornapal, and Dantewada.
