Virender Sehwag’s son, Aaryavir, has entered the Delhi Premier League (DPL), finally making his debut. This marked Aaryavir’s first time playing in a league. He began his innings in an explosive manner, reminiscent of his father’s career. The performance seemed to be a direct result of the advice he received from his father, as Aaryavir disclosed after the game.
Aaryavir Sehwag, 17, started his career in DPL 2025 playing for Central Delhi Kings. He got his chance against East Delhi Riders and, much like his father, opened the batting. Anyone who has watched Virender Sehwag play is familiar with his aggressive batting from the beginning of his innings. Aaryavir showed a similar approach.
Aaryavir started his innings by scoring a single in the first over, followed by two boundaries against Navdeep Saini, a fast bowler. He then hit two more boundaries against a spinner. The right-handed batsman made a statement in his first match. Although he didn’t score a big total, his 22 runs from 16 balls demonstrated his explosive batting potential, similar to his father, and his capability to face any bowler.
When asked about the pre-debut conversation with his father, Aaryavir shared the three key pieces of advice Virender Sehwag had given him. Aaryavir said, “Not much was discussed with dad, he just told me to play freely, not to overthink, and to play my shots.”
It’s clear that Aaryavir put his father’s advice into action on the field, and his performance in a short innings highlighted his potential. Aaryavir replaced Yash Dhull in the team, who had been performing well, but had to leave the tournament for the Duleep Trophy. Central Delhi Kings will now play in Qualifier-1, and based on his debut performance, Aaryavir is likely to be included in the next match.
