WPL 2023: Delhi Capitals misplaced to Mumbai Indians by seven wickets within the remaining at Brabourne Stadium and completed because the runner-up of the inaugural version.

By India Today Sports Desk: Meg Lanning stated Delhi Capitals’ (DC) defeat within the remaining of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 was a “difficult pill to swallow”. On Sunday, March 26, DC misplaced to Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets and completed because the runners-up of the inaugural WPL version.

After opting to bat first, DC discovered themselves at 79 for the lack of 9 wickets in 16 overs. But Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav placed on 52 runs for the tenth wicket and guided the Capitals to a decent rating of 131 for 9 in 20 overs.

However, Mumbai chased down the goal with three balls to spare after Nat Sciver-Brunt stayed unbeaten on 60 runs off 55 balls with seven fours.

“Difficult pill to swallow, MI deserved the win. Can’t fault our efforts though. We hadn’t set a target as such, we would have liked to put a few more,” Lanning was quoted as saying within the post-match presentation ceremony.

After MI misplaced the wickets of Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia early, Harmanpreet Kaur and Sciver-Brunt placed on 72 runs for the third wicket. After Harmanpreet bought run out, Sciver-Brunt performed till the very finish and noticed her crew previous the end line. She additionally performed the successful shot off Alice Capsey.

“This comp has shown that if we keep fighting we could be in the challenge. We thought we could put pressure with early wickets, we did well in the first ten. But Nat Sciver Brunt and Harmanpreet played well. The management and the team have been supportive and I’d love to see the team grow, which it will,” Lanning added.
