The World Athletics Championship 2025 final is approaching, with a highly anticipated match between Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem. The men’s javelin throw final in Tokyo, slated for Thursday, promises a memorable event.
The India-Pakistan rivalry will be on display as two of the world’s top javelin throwers compete for gold in the athletics stadium.
Neeraj Chopra, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist and the 2023 World Champion, will face Arshad Nadeem, who won gold at Paris 2024, marking Pakistan’s first Olympic champion in athletics. Tokyo holds Olympic memories for Chopra, with Nadeem seeking to add the world title to his name.
Arshad Nadeem’s path to the final wasn’t straightforward. In Group B, his opening throw was 76.99m, short of the 84.50m mark needed to qualify automatically. Yet, he delivered an 85.28m throw on his final attempt, securing his place in the final.
Neeraj Chopra had a comfortable qualification, requiring only one throw of 84.85m in his opening attempt to advance. He placed third in Group A, behind Julian Weber of Germany (87.21m) and Anderson Peters of Grenada, who had an outstanding 89.53m throw.
Sachin Yadav, from India, will also be participating in the final, having secured his spot after progressing through the earlier rounds. He finished 10th overall.
The final will feature twelve of the world’s leading athletes competing for the gold medal.
The men’s javelin throw final is set for Thursday, September 19, 2025, at the National Stadium in Tokyo. The event will start at 6:30 PM local time, 3:00 PM IST, and 2:30 PM PKT. Viewers can watch the live telecast on Star Sports Network and Jio Hotstar.
