Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has retired from his 18-year cricket career on Wednesday (9 December). Parthiv told via social media that he is retiring from all cricket formats today. Parthiv, 35, has played 25 Tests, 38 ODIs and two T20 Internationals for India. Parthiv has played 194 first class matches while playing for Gujarat in domestic cricket.

Parthiv Patel made his debut in the Indian cricket team in 2002 and with this he became the youngest wicketkeeper to debut in Test cricket. He made his debut at the age of 17 years and 153 days. Parthiv has scored 934 runs in Test cricket at an average of 31.13. At the same time, in ODIs, he has scored 736 runs at an average of 23.7. Parthiv’s career started well, but after the rise of Dinesh Karthik and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 2004, he lost his place.

Even though he bounced back, he failed to secure his place in the Indian team and Wriddhiman Saha became the first choice in the Test. After this, things became more challenging for this Ahmedabad cricketer. However, Parthiv never gave up. He continued to perform well in the Indian Premier League and the domestic circuit. Parthiv Patel scored 339 runs in IPL 2015 and was ranked fourth in the list of players who scored the most runs for Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians won the IPL title this year. At the end of the same year, he scored his first century of List-A and led Gujarat to the title of his first Vijay Hazare Trophy.
