Varun Chakaravarthy, an important player in India’s Asia Cup 2025 final victory, chose a witty way to celebrate. On X (formerly Twitter), he posted a photo of himself in bed with a teacup, and also shared an image of his teammates holding up an ‘imaginary trophy’ after their win over Pakistan. His tweet: “Akkha duniya ek taraf, aur mere India ek taraf. Jai Hind,” served as a playful jab at Pakistan and ACC head Mohsin Naqvi, since India never received the actual trophy following the chaotic post-match ceremony.
Throughout the team, there was a sense of mockery aimed at Naqvi’s actions, with some players lounging and scrolling through their phones as he stood awkwardly on the podium. A number of players also refrained from accepting their individual awards or shaking hands with the ACC president, prompting him to depart with the trophy. This wasn’t the first time Chakaravarthy had used a teacup to playfully taunt Pakistan. In 2025, after India’s Champions Trophy win against New Zealand, the Karnataka bowler posted a photo of himself drinking coffee with the trophy, captioned: “A lot of distance was travelled to get a taste of this Cup.”
The ACC Chairman’s disgraceful removal of India’s trophy followed Pakistan’s three losses to India during the tournament. This led to the ACC Chairman’s reputation being damaged.
