After the retirements of several prominent Indian cricketers, Mohammed Shami has addressed the rumors surrounding his retirement. He made it clear that he has no plans to retire at this time. Shami used this opportunity to respond to those who have been speculating about his future in cricket, providing a direct and forceful statement.
Shami stated he will continue playing as long as he is motivated. During an interview, he said, “If anyone has any problem, let them tell me. Will my retirement make their life better? Tell me, whose life have I become a problem, that you want me to retire? The day I get bored, I will retire myself.” The fast bowler added, “Don’t select me, but I will keep working hard. If you don’t select me for international cricket, I will play domestic. I will keep playing somewhere.” Shami, who is 34 years old, believes that it is not the right time to retire.
Shami mentioned that his dream of winning the ODI World Cup is still unfulfilled. He acknowledged that the team came close in 2023 but did not win. He hopes to be there in 2027. Shami highlighted his fitness efforts, particularly his focus on weight loss and improved bowling stamina. He emphasized that he continues to love cricket and will quit when his passion diminishes. Shami last played international cricket in March and was not selected for the Asia Cup. During the 2025 IPL, he was seen struggling with his bowling form.
