Runs in opposition to a ‘good’ New Zealand assault give me lot of confidence: Washington Sundar

India tour of New Zealand 2022: Washington Sundar shone within the ODI collection, chipping in with the bat in two spectacular knocks. The all-rounder credited his new weight loss program for his improved health on return to the 50-overs facet.

By India Today Web Desk: India all-rounder Washington Sundar thanked stand-in head coach VVS Laxman for offering him with alternatives with bat and ball within the recently-concluded 3-match ODI collection in New Zealand. Sundar shone along with his all-round abilities as he received time within the center with the bat in ODIs for the primary time since February.

Sundar returned to the ODI set-up after overcoming a severe of damage issues throughout a house collection in opposition to South Africa in October. However, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder didn’t get to bat.

Sundar showcased his improved abilities with the bat within the 3-match ODI collection, smashing 37 not out of simply 16 balls within the collection opener in Auckland that helped India put up a par complete of 36. In the ultimate ODI in Christchurch, Sundar hit his maiden ODI half-century, propelling the group to 219 after the top-order and the middle-order crumbled on a grass-rich pitch on the Bay Oval.

“Definitely, I should thank Laxman sir for the opportunity that he gave me. Playing me at No. 7 and giving me full quota of overs is very good and definitely performing over here, performing against such a brilliant attack with the bat gives me a lot of confidence and belief. Going forward, I would take forward everything that I had in this series,” Sundar instructed Prime Video after the third ODI was deserted as a consequence of rain in Christchurch.

Sundar stated he has been clear about his course of with the bat and that he was comfortable that every one his laborious work paid off within the 3-match ODI collection.

‘BEEN RUNNING A LOT’

Sundar completed the ODI collection with 88 runs in 2 innings, chipping in at essential junctures for the ODI group.

“I had some message coming from the coach, I just wanted to focus on getting runs as per the message. I try to keep things very simple, just watch the ball… I wanted to focus on my process, I thought if I was able to stick with my process, I can find success,” he added.

Shedding gentle on his improved health, Sundar credited the work finished on the National Cricket Academy and his improved weight loss program.

Sundar can be a part of the 3-match ODI collection in opposition to Bangladesh which is able to get underway from December 4.

“I have been running a lot, my trainer from the NCA has been making me run a lot. I am very conscious of my diet, and that’s something I have worked on, tried to say away from certain things. Tried to eat certain things a lot. I am glad everything has been working well for me,” the all-rounder added.
